Change Makers virtual healthy lifestyles sessions

The Change Makers healthy lifestyles team are now providing free online sessions, helping families learn about healthy living topics through a range of fun activities.

Get the whole family involved in preparing meals with live interactive cooking sessions, take part in family exercises, and gain practical advice for healthier living through a rolling programme of family learning sessions. There’s also an educational workshop for parents/carers that provides a general overview of healthy living, including useful tips and a Q&A session.

These sessions are available to all families with a child/young person who goes to school in Warwickshire. They will be delivered via Zoom; you will receive a link and further instructions upon signing up.

The programme will repeat after an initial 7 weeks and the timetable will be updated ahead of this, so please check back if you would like to attend a session further in the future than those listed.

What’s involved?

Live cooking sessions: cook along with a member of the healthy lifestyles team and learn new tasty, healthy recipes you can add into your regular rotation.

Q&A on nutrition and exercise: an open forum to discuss nutrition and exercise, dispel common myths and misconceptions, and make sure you get all the answers you need to confidently make lifestyle changes.

Live family exercise: get the whole family moving with fun interactive exercise sessions.

Parent/carer workshop: a self-contained workshop that will develop your understanding of healthy eating and its role in achieving a healthy weight, and teach you some useful practical tips to help your family live healthier lives.

Programme: learning sessions for the whole family that cover a different healthy lifestyles topic each week (the same session will be delivered multiple times that week):

Programme topics

  • Week 1 (w/c 6th July) Eatwell Together. What a balanced diet is and how to implement this in your daily life.
  • Week 2 (w/c 13th July) Extra servings. Learn correct portion sizes for your family by simply using your hand as a guide.
  • Week 3 (w/c 20th July) Playtime. How much physical activity we should do a week and how to overcome barriers.
  • Week 4 (w/c 27th July) Boxed up. Understanding food labels and how to use them to make healthy choices.
  • Week 5 (w/c 3rd August) Eat to live, live to eat. Convenience foods, fats and preparing food from fresh. 
  • Week 6 (w/c 10th August) The sugar factory. An in-depth look at sugar and how much is too much.
  • Week 7 (w/c 17th August) Best meal of the day. What a healthy day looks like and how to make it happen in your daily life.
