Compass Phoenix service for children and young people launches in North Yorkshire

Published on: September 2, 2021

A new integrated mental health and wellbeing service for children and young people has launched across North Yorkshire.

Compass Phoenix – named after extensive consultations with young clients – offers an integrated service for the nearly 400 schools and colleges, including academies and private schools.

The new service amalgamates the work of Compass BUZZ and Compass REACH mental health and wellbeing services which have operated successfully in England’s largest county since 2017.

Lisa Gale, service manager of Compass Phoenix said the new service was named by young clients who felt Compass services gave them a new lease of life.

The service offers the same high-quality interventions to children and young people who need support with emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties, as Compass REACH did, providing evidence-based psychosocial interventions on a one-to-one or group work basis.

In line with what Compass BUZZ offered, Compass Phoenix is supporting schools and colleges to develop a whole school approach towards emotional wellbeing and mental health through the delivery of workforce training.

It provides advice and guidance to school staff through Compass’ established professional consultation model and retains the widely used text messaging service ‘BUZZ US’.

Lisa said: “I am delighted that we are able to offer these comprehensive services as a single team, integrated in name as well as spirit.

“This gives us the opportunity to align ourselves with the vision that commissioners have of the emotional wellbeing and mental health offer in North Yorkshire.”

It is jointly commissioned by North Yorkshire County Council and the North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (on behalf of Bradford and Craven CCG and Vale of York CCG).
