An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner within our Compass GO… North East Lincolnshire Mental Health Support Team. This role is a perfect opportunity to help shape the services we provide with children, young people, families and educational settings.
About Compass GO…
Compass GO… (NEL Mental Health Support Team) is an early intervention mental health and emotional wellbeing service. The service delivers evidenced based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health and wellbeing needs.
It is part of the Mental Health Support Team Trailblazer Pilot, which has been commissioned by the Dept of Education & NHSE following the ‘Transforming Children and Young People’s Mental Health Care Provision: A Green Paper’ (2017). The trailblazer will increase the children and young people’s mental health workforce and increase capacity to support pupils.
Compass GO… aims to:
- Ensure children and young people access the right early help, in the right setting removing duplication and preventing CYP/families being ‘bounced’ in-between services
- Help children and young people (5-19 years) to manage their feelings, behaviours, thoughts, physical sensations so that they can better engage with their learning and education
- Work alongside educational staff to embed Whole School Approaches at all levels
About the Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner role
The role of the Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners (TEMHPs) is to deliver short term low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) informed interventions for children and young people aged 5 -19 years with anxiety, low mood, common challenging behaviours, family and peer relationship difficulties, difficulty adjusting to change and transition or difficulty managing emotions in educational settings.
Trainee EMHPs also work with Designated Mental Health Leads and other educational staff to build on and develop evidenced-based Whole School Approaches.
Trainee EMHPs must undertake a Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Practice in Education Settings qualification at Sheffield University. During term time you will be required to attend Sheffield University two days per week.
The 12 month post graduate course will start in February 2022 and will consist of academic and supervised practice learning across mental health services and educational settings, such as primary and secondary schools, and further education colleges.
Delivery of the programme will be provided through a combination of taught days within Sheffield University, independent self-guided study (including in your own time) and experience gained in education wellbeing and mainstream health services.
On successful completion of training, TEMHPs will be equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge and capabilities to work as a qualified EMHP as autonomous and responsible practitioners within their scope of practice, alongside education colleagues, delivering schools’ overarching approach to providing mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people.
Working hours Mon – Fri, 37 hours per week, 2 days will be spent at Sheffield University during the academic year.
You will have to demonstrate in your application that you have the ability to work at degree level or have an equivalent level of relevant experience, with a proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health. You should have an understanding of the educational system in England and experience of working with children and young people is desirable.
Please note that if successful you will need to be available to start the role in January 2022 in order to commence the Sheffield University course in February 2022.
