The Children in Care Nurse Opportunity

We are looking for a nurse with the passion and drive to champion the health and wellbeing needs of children in care in Warwickshire. The Children in Care Nurse will work as part of our innovative, forward-thinking school nursing service, leading the way in identifying and meeting the health needs of children in care.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone dedicated to improving outcomes for children and young people to work within a skill-mix team of like-minded individuals.

About us

Connect for Health is an accessible, outcome-focused service that delivers key elements of the Healthy Child Programme. Our goal is to enhance the health and wellbeing of school-aged children and young people in Warwickshire, reducing health inequalities and giving individuals the best possible start in life.

Led by school nurses, our skill-mix team of healthcare professionals provide support and guidance via interventions including face to face, workshops, signposting and referring to specialist services. We are always on the lookout for new, creative ways to promote health and wellbeing and provide meaningful support, collaborating with children, young people and parents/carers to find solutions that work for them.

The service is provided by Compass, a charity who provide regional health and wellbeing services across England. We are known for our flexible working methods, our willingness to be adaptable in meeting the population’s changing health needs, and for always putting children and young people at the heart of everything we do.

The Children in Care Nurse Role

Working across Warwickshire based in one of our hubs (Stratford, Rugby, or Caldecote), the successful candidate will:

  • Complete Children in Care review health needs assessments within the statutory timeframes.
  • Carry out psychosocial brief interventions.
  • Create and implement innovative approaches to support the health and wellbeing of children in care.
  • Be proactive in promoting public health messages and initiatives.
  • Work both independently and as part of a multi-agency team around the child or young person.
  • Act as key contributor to the process of reflective practice and supervision within the team.

Safeguarding will be an integral part of the role.

The person

We are looking for someone with experience of:

  • Completing Children in Care health reviews.
  • Managing and prioritising a caseload.
  • Working with children, young people and families.
  • Delivering a range of health interventions to individuals on either a 1:1 or group basis.

You must possess a full driving licence and have access to your own transport.
