Do you have the experience and drive to ensure we improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people in Lewisham?
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and solution-focused Health & Wellbeing Nurse to join Compass@thehub, our Young People’s Health and Wellbeing Service in Lewisham.
Compass@thehub provides a highly innovative service, delivering a range of evidence-based interventions to young people aged 10-19 (up to 25 with additional needs), with a focus on emotional health and wellbeing, substance misuse and sexual health.
Our aim is to create an integrated and easily accessible service that enables young people to manage their own health and wellbeing either independently or with support to reduce the likelihood of escalation to specialist services.
About the role
As a Health & Wellbeing Nurse, your role will be to deliver outreach sexual health support, which will include pregnancy and STI testing, chlamydia treatment, and effective provision of both barrier and oral contraception, including emergency hormonal contraception.
You will carry a caseload of young people who require additional support to manage their sexual and mental health, providing psychosocial brief interventions to support healthy relationships, safe sex and positive emotional health. You will also support young people with complex substance misuse needs including those engaging with the adult substance misuse service for opiate substitute prescribing.
You will provide professional consultation across the wider children and families network across Lewisham including workforce development training for health promotion.
Working both on an outreach basis and from the clinical base in Catford, you will work closely with partner agencies to ensure equitable service delivery.
The role will involve some evening and weekend working depending on service need.
About the person
You will be an NMC registered Nurse who holds a specialist qualification in sexual health and has experience of working under PGD’s. You will be passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people and supporting communities to improve health outcomes for families. You will be skilled in engaging professionals via training, coaching and mentoring and able to challenge resistance. You will also have experience of working directly with children and young people with additional needs, using evidence based practice to facilitate sustainable behavioural change.
In return, we offer a range of benefits including:
- Generous annual leave
- Employee Assistance Programme and OH Service
- Eye tests for VDU users
- Excellent Learning & Development opportunities and Career Progression
- Generous Compass contributory Pension Scheme
