Compass Drug Dependency Clinics provide a specialist prescribing service for complex or chaotic service users who predominantly use heroin or benzodiazepines including pregnant service users. The team is nurse-led, with Compass nurses working alongside General Practitioners with Special Interests (GPwSI).

Each client undertakes a comprehensive assessment to understand their substance misuse history, personal circumstances and long term recovery needs. Service users are placed on a programme or detoxification or maintenance prescribing following assessment and receive assistance to reduce their dependence on illicit substances and reduce risks of overdose.

The team provide physical health assessments, blood borne virus assessments, testing and vaccinations and information and advice. The service also offers advice and assistance to other professionals working with substance misusers.

Additionally, the team provides training for fellow healthcare professionals and other agencies in the management of drug dependency.
