An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Young People’s Substance Misuse Worker to join our Coventry Young People’s Service. This post will be based in Coventry; however, there will be an expectation for the successful applicant to be working on an outreach basis across the county including working out of co-locations and satellite sites.

You will undertake a range of duties including comprehensive assessments, the assessment of risk and competency to consent to treatment, and you will also be delivering a range of targeted and specialist interventions to young people and adults up to the age of 25, in order to support them to make positive and long term life style changes with regards to their substance misuse.

Your interventions will include brief psycho-social interventions; specialist harm reduction; family work; ITEP and MI and you will also facilitate care planning and working with other lead professionals involved in the care of the young people and adults you work with. The interventions extend to smoking cessation and hidden harm work for children affected by parental substance misuse.

It is essential that work is carried out within the context of legislation including Every Child Matters; Working Together to Safeguard Children; Fraser Guidelines relating to informed consent and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.                         

This post requires a creative and dynamic approach to engaging with hard to reach and other vulnerable groups of young people. There is an expectation that you will undertake a specialist lead role focusing on a particular area of practice (i.e. Young People in transition, Looked after Children/Health/Diversity/BME Groups) and deliver a range of targeted interventions. You will be expected to deliver workshops to professionals, young people and their families and be able to build long term sustainable relationships with key stakeholders, community groups and community leaders across the across Warwickshire.

It is essential that you have a full, clean driving licence and own transport.
