An exciting opportunity has arisen for motivated and enthusiastic  Health and Wellbeing Support Workers to join our new Young Peoples Health and Wellbeing Service in Lewisham.

The Lewisham YPHWB Service is a new and highly innovative service commissioned by the London Borough of Lewisham and Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group to deliver a range of universal, targeted and specialist health and wellbeing interventions to young people aged 10-19 (up to 25 yearswith SEND) who are resident , GP registered or attending school in the Borough of Lewisham. The evidenced based interventions delivered will focus on three strands of care specific to young people’s risk taking behaviours; risky sexual behaviour, substance misuse andpoor mental health and emotional health. The service will provide education and prevention, early help and specialist support using a blend of face to face and on line digital interventions (secure messaging service, guided self help, online counselling and themed live chat) to maximise access and choice.

The service aim is to create an integrated and easily accessible service that enables young people to manage their own health and wellbeing either independently or with support to reduce the likelihood of escalation to specialist services at a later date.

As a Health and Wellbeing Support Worker your role will be to support universal and targeted interventions for young people identified as requiring additional support to manage their own sexual and mental health in a safe way and make informed decisions about substance use with the aim of acting early and preventing onset of harmful risky behaviours and poor mental health and wellbeing. This will take the form of universal outreach in schools and youth clubs, delivering PSHE sessions in a variety of settings, and targeted group work to promote healthy decision making in young people and engage those with additional needs into the service. You will also support office based functions including data input, answering the phone and updating the service website.

You will work across the Borough of Lewisham from the clinical base in Catford and outreach at various co-locations and peripatetic sites, and working closely with partner agencies ensure equitable service delivery to all young people, in particular those from vulnerable groups.

You should be passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people and supporting communities to improve health outcomes for families. You will be skilled in engaging professionals via training, coaching and mentoring and be able to challenge resistance. You will also have experience of working directly with children and young people with additional needs.

This post requires some evening and weekend work.

These posts are subject to Safer Recruitment and will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.

You must hold a full driving licence and have access to your own transport.

You will share Compass’ commitment to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
